I am beyond excited for this one. I have been waiting. Chomping at the bit. Checking regularly. And it’s finally out. Planet Crafter.
I have played ~150 hours in Early Access and I can’t wait to start all over in the full release. I am going to start over from the very, very beginning and play through with a deliberate thoroughness and delectable tasting of everything I can find.
I’m not going into the game blind which I kind of wish I could do. I would love to experience everything with the fresh joy I remember. Impossible, it will be a bit of nostalgia instead.
I have said before, I love building games. And this is one of the best I’ve played. I love that the story is there, but not actually important. There are hints of lore and history, but if you want to ignore it – you totally can. Or at least you could. I assume that won’t change.
The building isn’t perfect. There are limits and frustrations with placement that you just have to experience to appreciate. That said, I think the building is fun. There are enough interesting pieces to mix and match and organize. There are a few things I still hope they add, but they are necessary to make me happy. They would be cherries on a delicious banana split. If I don’t have them I’ll shrug and still thoroughly enjoy all the other things.
The world itself is NOT procedural generated, so unfortunately I do have to say the replay-ability is less. Less is not none. I am going to replay quite happily honestly. I have plans you know! And it isn’t a small world. Honestly, if it was much bigger I might find the travel too tedious to be worthwhile. The dev team did an excellent job balancing “big and interesting” against “tedious travel time” – which anyone who has played games like Skyrim/Medieval Dynasty knows can be challenging!!
Seriously, I do not get any kind of referral for this – but I am telling you: if you like survival games. Go get this game. If you like building games. Go get this game. If you like supporting brilliant indie devs. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR.
