I don’t work in the office every day, but when I do I sometimes need to book a conference room. When I show up and someone is sitting in there, I frequently flip open my laptop and check…. yup no one else booked MY ROOM.
I have two choices. Switch my booking or knock and kick them out.
I mean, I guess I have to option of sitting on the floor and crying, but that doesn’t do a lot of good.
It depends on why I booked the room as to which tact I take. If I just booked it so I can take a call in private or work without interruption: sure I can switch rooms. There are several rooms around the office which are ~4 people max. I liked the one I booked, but I’m not wedded to it.
If however I booked it because I need a larger space for a meeting with several people – get the bleep out of my room. I will knock. I will say, “Hey guys (it’s always men BTW) I have this room booked and really need it. Are you wrapping up soon?” Hopefully there’s three or four of us standing there looking at the rude…. *deep breath to avoid calling names.*
It’s a little thing overall. But dear god does it irritate me. There is one meeting room that a specific set of men love to squat in and it isn’t even like it’s the best meeting room, but it is the most convenient to my desk. I don’t know why they squat there, because their group/team has the room next door permanently booked. Not that they apparently pay any bleeping attention to a little thing like a calendar booking…
